Mass shootings by type from 2006 to 2023
Most mass shootings in the United States are not public, with only 22% occurring in public places, like malls, schools and places of worship, since 2006. The rest were in private homes, between family members, or linked to other serious crimes, or their circumstances were undetermined. The number of mass shootings reached a record high twice in the past five years.
